Revo is excited to be part of a new major exploration discovery in Australia by Omega Oil and Gas. Below is a brief summary of Omega’s recent announcement of the new play.
Omega Oil and Gas has announced a major oil and gas discovery at its Canyon-1H well in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. Initially a proof-of-concept for a gas play, the well exceeded expectations, producing up to 452 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 0.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas. With longer lateral wells, Omega projects potential rates of 987 BOPD and 1.45 MMSCFD, positioning the Canyon Project as a significant petroleum resource.
The discovery highlights the area’s strong commercial potential, with high-quality reservoirs and stacked pay zones allowing for dual oil and gas development. A nine-day production test confirmed stable and commercially viable flow rates, with a 24-hour peak of 321 BOPD and 0.472 MMSCFD. The well’s high-quality 49.5 API crude further strengthens its economic viability, comparable to top-tier U.S. unconventional plays. Omega’s successful drilling and fracture stimulation techniques demonstrate strong technical capabilities.
Looking ahead, Omega plans to fast-track development through further drilling, resource booking updates, and commercial partnerships. The company aims to assess the full potential of the field and accelerate its transition into production. With this discovery, Omega is emerging as a key player in Australia’s energy sector, capitalizing on both oil and gas opportunities.
As part of this project, Omega leveraged Revo’s production surveillance and analysis tools to closely monitor well performance throughout the testing phase. By utilizing Revo’s platform, Omega was able to rapidly identify trends, optimize production rates, and gain key insights into reservoir behavior—ensuring real-time data-driven decision-making that contributed to the success of the Canyon-1H well.
Darryl Tompkins, Chief Technology Officer, Revo Testing Technologies, comments on the find:
“The results of the production test on Canyon 1H completed by Omega Oil and Gas in the Bowen Basin are very encouraging. The bottom hole pressures, production rates and decline trends indicate a strong correlation to what we typically encounter within the most prolific unconventional liquids rich basins in the United States. We are excited for the team at Omega and believe discoveries like Canyon-1H could have a significant impact on expanding the development of unconventional oil and gas resources in Australia.”
